My first attempts during the GRC-toonweekend November 2009 to define a possible research framework as well as my fascination of a text presented to me by one of my RTS tutors has resulted in my decision to organize an artistic experiment in my studio based on the notions of inventive thinking.

Trickered by my specific interest in landscape and cartography the theoretical part is an analytic summary of one of Jean-Marc Besse’s texts published in 'Jean-Marc Besse, chapter IV of his Le goût du monde, Actes Sud/Ensp, 2009, pp. 149-188, titled "Cartographier, construire, inventer. Notes pour une épistémologie de la démarche de projet" where he establishes a link between the landscape project, the cartography and the logic of inventive thinking. In this text he explains how reflection about the landscape project can be nourished by reflections about the map approached from the position of logical intelligence, including the process of invention.
Besse investigates the intelligent identity of the map; the sense of reality that it gives to the spectator and its uniforming character. Next to this he analyzes the cartographic presentation as an intelligent synthesis. He considers the map as a diagram as well as a construction of a concept or a view (an image). According to Besse the dynamics of project oriented thinking originates from the construction. He continues to analyze the sketch (le tracement) which according to him is all about looking and thinking, and in its essence is about placing yourself in front of the yet unknown.
He places this constructive thinking in the perspective of a reflection about abduction. He analyzes the principles of abduction including the hypothesis of a point of view “point de vue”, and finally he discusses the importance of abduction in the setup of a project.
